My 2 week old daughter spends all her time suckling on my breast. How can I get her to stop? My 2 week old daughter wants to be on the breast all day. When she is awake all she wants to do is suckle and as soon as i take her off she starts to cry. She spends hours on my breast and she wont take a pacifier. Is this normal and how can I get her to stop? I feel like I have no life, I spend my entire day letting my baby suckle and I cant go anywhere. Please help! |
Is she gaining well? Does she only nurse for comfort, or does she also nurse actively 8 to 10 times a day?
It's not abnormal for a newborn to suckle a lot. They have an instinct to do that.
Some infants just take longer to breastfeed than others. Check out kellymom.com and lalecheleague.org for ideas to encourage her to nurse more actively.
As for not being able to go anywhere, have you tried nursing her in a baby sling? If she is in a sling, you can go about your business and no one can see what she is doing. |
Can an adult man get hiv from suckling his lover and coincidentally swallowing her breast milk? In one of our romantic evenings I swallowed breast milk as I suckled my lover Am not sure of her Hiv status since I haven't asked her to visit a vct. We have also been deep-kissing do I run any risk especially from the breast milk? |
Breast milk is one of the bodily fluids that contains and transmits HIV. You would need to swallow a LOT of milk to be infected that way. Or, you would need to have an open sore or cut in your mouth. It's not enough for you to digest the milk. It would need to find its way into your bloodstream.
Since it is a one-time exposure, and you are unaware of her status, I would doubt that you are infected. But it would be possible to be infected through breast milk.
Good question. |
Can using a breast pump stimulate more milk production- or just a baby's suckling? I read in a book that only a baby's suckling can stimulate more milk to be produced and that using a breast pump only drains the sinuses. Is this true- or can you actually stimulate more milk to come in by pumping?
I'm trying to boost my supply but haven't had any success. Any suggestions I can try? Thanks for your advice- my son and I thank you :) |
Pumping **in addition to nursing on cue** can boost supply, but a baby's latch is much more effective at boosting supply. The best thing to do is to offer the breast more. Are you trying to boost your overall supply, or just get more pumping output? What makes you think your supply is low? See this link: "Is Your Supply Really Low?" www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/low-su…
Basically, if your baby is wetting enough diapers and gaining weight, your supply is fine. See here: www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/enough…
If you're needing to get more milk when you pump (maybe for when you're at work, school, etc), then I can give you some tips for boosting pumping output as well.
You can try pumping one breast while the baby nurses at the other. This can take some practice, and you might need some help from a second person to make it work at first. If you have a hands-free pumping bra, like this one: www.amazon.com/Easy-Expression-Bu… you can try using just one side of an electric pump on your free breast while you nurse the baby on the other. You can also use a single manual squeeze pump, like the Medela Harmony: www.amazon.com/Medela-Harmony-Man… but this will require one free hand to squeeze the pump. With a lot of practice, though, you might be able to get the hang of it.
You can also pump after feedings (as many as possible) and while your baby is sleeping. Keep in mind that the early morning is usually the best time for pumping. Your prolactin levels are at their highest, so most women find that they get the most milk then.
Personally, I found that eating steel cut Irish oatmeal really helped my pumping output. I would eat a bowl before bed, and when I pumped in the morning, I would get a good 2-3 ounces more than I used to. Regular Quaker rolled oats never worked like that for me. You might consider eating some steel cut oatmeal a few times a day.
There are also herbal options: fenugreek, blessed thistle, Mother's Milk tea, tinctures, like More Milk Plus: www.motherlove.com/product_more_m… or the Nursing Mother's Blend from Kerry's Herbals: www.kerrysherbals.com/nursing.sht… (scroll down to find it). Many of these contain the same ingredients, so make sure you check the contents before using more than one.
Here's some more good links on pumping: kellymom.com/bf/pumping/index.htm… and here: www.breastfeeding.com/forums/show… There's a lot of tips there on building up a milk stash, keeping up your supply, and pumping at work. |
Any nutritional advantage or otherwise of suckling a wife's breast that's nursing a guy? Is it advisable to suck a breast-milk of one's wife for the fun of it? |
| Yes I do, I am currently sucking the lady next door as well, I know it makes me feel better and then they both do me |
Breastfeeding ?- Any success, or tips on breast compression to stimulate babies' suckling? He is two months old, exlusively breastfed, and not gaining as quickly as the charts dictate that he should.
I think I've found a solution: Breast compression. Squeezing the breast during feedings to stimulate active feeding (rather than comfort nursing).
I am looking for stories and advice based on personal experience. Please, no links to kellymom or La Leche. I've been reading them all day. Not trying to sound rude, just don't want to waste your time. : ) |
I read all sorts of instructions on breast compression but it really only made sense once I saw this Jack Newman video:

My Baby Just Wants To Sleep On the Breast & Suckle- Does This Mean She Isn't Feeling Well? normally my 4 month old is a perfect baby & ONLY cries when she's sleepy or hungry. But all day today & part of the day yesterday, she's been a little cranky/ fussy. She seems to just want tp sleep on the boppy while suckling on the breast. I wondered if her wanting to comfort nurse along w/ being fussy might mean she isn't feeling well. Thoughts? Thanks! |
| It might mean she isn't feeling well. It could also be a growth spurt, teething, or just a stage. It's hard to tell with babies sometimes. Just let her nurse if that's what she wants. In a few days she'll probably get over it and go back to normal. If she starts having other symptoms, such as a fever, runny nose, etc. then she's probably sick. |
My Sweetheart has the fantasy of suckling the breast of a lactating woman!? The desire has been with him for many years. However, at 64 yrs of age, the need is stronger and more important than ever. Our research tells us this is not an uncommon need. The problem is this,,,,,,how do we find a lactating gal to accommodate. While we could read much about the fantasy, we found nothing regarding the resolution of our problem. |
I tell the dirty old fart he's SOL. There's no way I'd let a man that old suckling my breast.... if I was or wasn't lactating.
HE IS SICK!!! |
Who do you see in the NBA and wonder why he is still not suckling at mamas breast because of their baby face? meaning they just look wayyyyyyy too baby faced and young to be banging it up with the likes of sheed and co. my own answer is monta ellis. whats yours? |
| devin harris looks like a lil guy. he probably get carded whenever he buys alcohol or goes to the clubs because even though he's tall he looks like he's 12 years old or something. |
Should I let my baby just suckle on breast? My 13 week old loves and is instantly calmed down when put to the breast. Is it okay to let him us me as a pacifier? When he is upset we always try other calming techniques first, and they usually work, but sometimes he just wants to suckle on the breast. He is not eating during these times! Thanks! |
| I let my little one comfort suck. I see nothing wrong with it. It comforts babies and reduces the risk of SIDS. A mommy can always use a pacifier as well. Nothing wrong with it at all in my opinion. |
Can a man suckling on a woman's breast cause her to lactate? When my husband and I made love tonight me caressed and suckled my left breast/nipple quite a lot. I jumped in the shower right after and as i cleaned myself i must have squeezed my left breast because i noticed something white on my nipple! I squeezed deliberately this time and more came out! I squeezed my other one numerous times but no milk came out of that one! do you think the fondling had something to do with this? I have never had a guy and my period came on time last month and all signs seem to be pointing it will be on time again. I am freaking out....should I be? |
| its likely discharge, but it IS possible to lactate from your husband suckling on them enough... dont freak out!! this is normal, but keep an eye on it, if it happens a lot, may want to get it checked out. |
